Thoughts on Trees

Who among us has not at one time or another ask, "why am I here, what is my purpose?
Like most of us, I enjoy Nature, enjoy her Beauty, there
is nothing like a walk in the woods on a crisp Autumn day, or a day spent in the Summer Sun.
I am especially drawn to Trees, as an artist, I find them symmetrically pleasing. While sketching a tree one day, I was struck by the thought of what a valuable life
lesson could be learned from this magnificent plant.
A Tree begins as a small seed, the seed germinates, then
begins to send out strong, roots, the roots give the
Tree a firm foundation, and aid in nourshing the Tree. A
Tree continues to grow, never asking "why am I here", but
rather does simply what it was created to do. A Tree offers a home and protection to many animals. They provide materials for many man made products. They shade
us, give us food and share their natural beauty with us.
When the storms come, they know to bend with the storm,
thus surviving it. Their branches are always reaching
upward, toward the Sun, seeking a higher place. When their
life is over, they return to the earth, to enrich and nourish the soil. They leave behind off spring to continue the process.....
I wonder, would we become wiser by following the Trees example? If we began by building a strong foundation, and as we grew, rather than question our existance, we would simply use the gifts that we were given. Each in our own way, giving to others, fullfilling our purpose. When the storms come, learn to bend with them, and afterwards, finding that we had become stronger, wiser.
Could we not become our best if we remember to always reach higher?
Ahh, musings of an old woman, but just perhaps, the
next time you see a tree, you will look at it a bit differently.
